The Boarding Kennel

Summer sunrise at Shadowland. All the dogs are still inside snoozing.

Welcome!

Welcome to Shadowland Kennels! Constructed in 2001, we have a well designed, clean and secure environment to house your pet while you are away. Our Indoor/Outdoor dog boarding kennel is climate controlled with Central Air and wonderful Radiant Floor Heat to warm the floor for your dog in the winter.

We pride ourselves in keeping a clean, safe and friendly environment for your dog. Your dog will quickly learn to use the doggy door to go either inside or outside within his enclosure. The interior kennel is not dark and dismal, but open designed and naturally lit with several windows. Dogs can socialize between runs and love to engage with each other! More reserved dogs are spaced away from other dogs if possible or housed near other more laid back dogs.

Your dog can mingle with a few other dogs while we are out there in one of our fenced outdoor play areas or, if you prefer, have the area all to himself for a little outside stretching and smelling. This area is rocked so that your dog stays clean even on a rainy day.

Want a little more fun? For an extra fee, your dog can be taken for a private hillside walk around our pond or have one on one playtime. The dogs LOVE the walks around the pond! So many sights and smells! Adding this exercise helps your dog have a more relaxed experience!

Dogs are made to feel welcome, loved and settled in by our responsible and friendly staff. Most dogs genuinely get excited about their visit to Shadowland Kennels. They look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones and love the biscuits, cuddling, playtime, butt-scratching and head pats given generously by the staff.

Perk-a long time client now at Rainbow Bridge.

Here is where your dog goes on their walks-around the pond & through the prairie.

Boarding Info

What you can bring:

You may bring a clean mat, bed or blanket for your dog. However, we are not responsible for damages to items that are brought with the dog. We can supply a clean towel or blanket for your dog too. If you have a smaller dog, you may bring his/her clean crate to put in the run as well.

Acceptable, safe toys are also allowed. Please, no more than 3.

You may bring some biscuits or treats, but please label them with your dog's name and limit these to one box or container. And, keep in mind, we carry a nice line of quality treats, bones and chews.

What you may NOT bring:

Please do not bring small balls, raw hides, rope toys, cow hooves or toys/beds that you do not want to lose or have ruined.

Food:

We provide Iams Dog Food for your dog free of charge while it is boarded. Iams works very well for most dogs and we have had very minimal problems with dogs that switch over to it from another food. We have used Iams successfully for over 25 years.

If your dog requires a prescription food or you decide to bring your own food, please follow these guidelines;

  • Food must be in a clean, sealed plastic container, not a bag.

  • It must be labeled with your dog's name and amount to be fed in cups noted.

  • We do not need measuring devices included.

  • Please do not bring bowls.

Required: Fecal Exams

Why does my dog need a fecal exam before his first visit?
A fecal exam will catch parasites that deworming does not cover or did not irradicate. Many dogs carry internal parasites without outward symptoms. We want to keep all of our clients safe from contagious internal parasites and also help you find things that may otherwise go unnoticed so that your dog can be treated and feel better. Once a dog kennel’s grounds are contaminated with parasite eggs or cysts, they can remain ready to infect your dog for many months.

Examples of very well cared for dogs having routine fecals;
1.5 YO male-Positive for Coccidia.
6 YO female tested positive for Coccidia and Hookworms.
1 YO Male- positive for Roundworms and Giardia.

None of these dogs had any symptoms of illness and their owners were very surprised at the results.

Please help us keep Shadowland parasite free!

Veterinary Requirements:

All dogs must be up to date on these vaccinations:

* Distemper/Parvo Booster
* Rabies

They must also be parasite free.

* Please check your pet for fleas prior to boarding.

* Have a Negative Fecal exam prior to first time boarded. We recommend annual follow up fecal exams.

Recommended, but not required;

* Heartworm Test & Prevention & Flea & Tick Prevention Seasonally. If your dog gets added walks, tick prevention is highly recommended.

* Bordetella, IF given at least 2 weeks prior to boarding. Please avoid vaccinating your dog for Bordetella (Kennel Cough) within 2 weeks prior to boarding. It may not be fully effective and some vaccines can cause some dogs to cough (and some may actually shed the virus to other dogs) for days after vaccination.

More about the Vaccine

Note: 'Up to date' vaccinations means that your next scheduled Booster date on your "Reminders" sheet from your veterinarian has not passed. We need veterinary documentation of those due dates.

Your pet can be on a 1 or 3 year schedule with your vet. Or your vet may sign a waiver if your dog has a medical reason for not being vaccinated. We would need a signed and dated copy of that waiver.

Your vet can email or Fax this information to us!

Medications

We will happily administer medication for your dog or cat free if it is only oral medication or ear or eye (or other topical) application. If there are more than one of these 3 things ( ex. Eye plus oral) required for your dog, or if the number of times administered is more than 2 times per day, you will be charged $1.00 extra per day for medical treatment administration.

Limited hours for customers provide our canine clients with a less stressful environment throughout the day and gives us time to properly care for them in an uninterrupted manner.

Why are we closed on Sundays and Holidays even though
we are still here caring for the dogs that day?

While we still care for our boarding guests 365 days of the year, we are closed for drop-offs and pick-ups on Sundays and Holidays. This allows us, and your dogs, one day that is less stressful and relaxed where we can adjust our schedules so that we can plan and enjoy our day doing something we may not ordinarily get to do.

As a small, home-based business, we appreciate your understanding our need for an unscheduled day each week and on Holidays.

Please pick up one of our business cards-the hours are listed on the back.

We Do Cat Boarding!

We have modern cat enclosures that provide a safe and sanitary environment for your cat during their stay. Cats are in a cozy room separate from the dogs and have a window to look outside. Each enclosure is equipped with a cat perch. Your cat will receive plenty of attention, ear scratches and time outside his suite to run and climb in the cat room!
